As a seasoned bra and bodywear designer her dedication for creating solution driven garments led her to direct and concept collections for some of the world’s most reputable brands. Taking lead in launching the intimates category for these companies, she became known for creating a new DNA for each product line with not only a purpose but a mission.
As an emotionally intuitive designer Mechanic considers the human connection in every detail she designs, and makes it her goal to deliver product that supports, fits comfortably, and brings confidence to woman of all shapes and sizes. Her process starts by observing movement and lifestyle to capture its ever-evolving needs. By combining both fashion and industrial design she explores where science, function, and design intersect. Focused on delivering new innovations she works with her teams to engineer and prototype product that tap into the latest technologies and body mapping. Her work on the Anti-Gravity bra series for DKNY focused on creating proprietary product that uses data and statistics to promote woman’s breast health and circulation. She is currently researching the influence of mass customization and how to personalize product for the individual experience.
Inspired by her own active lifestyle; whether it be rock climbing a challenging course to racing down the ski slopes, Mechanic is her own case study. Her curiosity and exploration of the way the body moves motivates her to imagine and discover advanced product to improve and enhance its performance.
She credits her vision for fashion and product forecasting to her design philosophy of // Slash-Slash Culture // which posits that our multiple disciplines expose us to individual experiences but collectively stack to disclose patterns that deliver the macro trends. As a fashion designer/ global traveler/ street artist/ outdoor adventurer/ graphic geek/ New Yorker, Mechanic absorbs her surroundings to ideate emerging concepts and strategize white-space. With her intuition and innate sensibility for style she strives to spark new ideas, inspire new aesthetics, and tell new stories.
